The Ames Community School District board voted unanimously to direct the superintendent and administration to take steps needed to withdraw the district from the Iowa Alliance Conference and join the Little Hawkeye Conference beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
Board member DeWerde moved the directive; Beerbohm seconded the motion. After brief comment noting the issue had been discussed in prior meetings, the board recorded six ayes, zero nays and the motion passed 6–0.
The motion directs administration to take "all necessary steps" to effect the conference change, with a start date specified as the 2026–27 school year. Additional logistics and scheduling for athletics were not debated in detail during the meeting and will be addressed by athletic staff and administration.
