The Liberty Hill ISD Board of Trustees on Monday approved awarding a contract to Nextiva for districtwide Voice over IP telephony services, a move staff said will unify two existing phone systems and save the district money as it grows.
District staff recommended Nextiva as the provider for a contract from May 1, 2025, through Oct. 31, 2028, funded from the general fund and “not to exceed $200,000 annually.” The presentation noted the district currently operates two phone systems in some buildings, which complicates training and maintenance.
A district staff member presenting the item said the replacement should reduce annual costs compared with current spending and extend features such as a soft‑phone app to more staff members. “It will save us money over what we're spending now, which is great since we're going to be growing,” the presenter said.
Trustee Chris Neighbors moved approval; Trustee Brandon Kennedy seconded. The board voted in favor by voice vote and the motion carried.
The contract authorization directs the superintendent or a designee to complete contract negotiations. Staff estimated next fiscal year’s cost would be below the $200,000 cap as additional campuses come online; the $200,000 figure was presented as a not‑to‑exceed planning cap covering a full build‑out scenario.
