City staff requested two Next Generation Advisory Board members to participate in stakeholder interview sessions being run by the Urban Land Institute as part of a Technical Advisory Panel examining the Geneva Village/Northern Gateway site.
Chris Nelson, the board’s staff liaison, explained that ULI — an independent organization of land-use and real-estate professionals — will hold 30-minute small-group interviews on Wednesday, May 21 (daytime) as part of a study to develop recommendations for the property. Nelson described the opportunity as a chance for board members to provide local perspective on redevelopment priorities and community values.
Nelson provided background on Geneva Village: the property previously served as a retirement community under city ownership and was later vacated; the city has engaged ULI to advise on possible futures for the parcel. Nelson said that while ULI’s recommendations will inform city staff and future planning, final decisions will follow the city’s established review and approval processes.
Two board members volunteered interest during the meeting; staff will circulate scheduling details once ULI confirms exact times. The staff liaison emphasized that participants would receive briefing materials in advance.
Members discussed availability and asked Nelson to follow up by email with precise times and materials. The board did not take any binding position on redevelopment during the stakeholder-request discussion.
The request was portrayed as an opportunity to give ULI local input ahead of a broader planning process, not as a commitment to a particular redevelopment outcome.
