Derry Area School District board approves capital transfers, mower purchase and recommends McCor Company for ESCO audit

The Derry Area School District board approved business affairs motions that included capital project transfers for band and choral risers, a lower-cost turf mower purchase and a recommendation to move forward with an energy services company (ESCO) investment-grade audit.

Board discussion noted savings on the band and choral risers: the district had budgeted about $40,000 but staff secured the required risers for $13,077. For grounds equipment, the district had budgeted $30,000 to replace a Steiner mower; after an evaluation the district recommended purchasing a zero-turn mower for $15,500 and later adding a replacement deck for approximately $4,000–$5,000, yielding two operational mowers for an estimated $20,000 rather than a single new mower for $30,000.

On the ESCO item, the board reviewed the district's request-for-proposals process. The district advertised the ESCO RFP in January (ads ran Feb. 5, Feb. 12 and Feb. 17), held a mandatory walkthrough Feb. 27, and received two responding firms. Responses were due March 12, 2025; the building and grounds committee interviewed both firms on April 3, 2025, and reconvened April 10, 2025. The committee recommended McCor Company to proceed with an investment-grade audit and potential escrow projects. The transcript records a McCor representative saying, "We're here tonight. We're excited for the opportunity to work with the district," attributed to Eric Petrazio, a company representative.

The motions combining business affairs items A through D were approved by the board by voice vote. The ESCO recommendation and subsequent project work would require follow-up approvals and possible contract actions before work begins.
