Lake Bluff Architectural Board approves three sign permits, accepts minutes

The Lake Bluff Architectural Board on Thursday approved three sign permits and accepted the minutes of its Oct. 7 meeting during a special session.
The board voted 5-0 to approve a monument sign for a business identified in the packet as Toy Box at 95 Ulrich Drive after hearing from the applicant. Gregory, the applicant, told the board the proposal is "an illuminated sign" mounted on a concrete base with a conduit to provide power and aluminum backup panels on the rear. A staff member clarified that an address number on the building must be placed and can be approved administratively by staff.
The board also approved a revised sign for Crucible Fitness at 421 E. Washington after owner Jay Miles described color and layout changes requested during an earlier review. Miles said the film on two front windows will be removed and that the west-facing window will remain a standard window; he told the board he and his sign contractor had worked on the revisions and that the new design “pops a little more.” Members discussed aligning corner signs and whether to keep supplemental window graphics; Miles said any window copy would be informational about classes rather than a repeat of the primary logo.
At the same meeting the board approved signage for a Jersey Mike’s franchisee, who described plans for two primary wall signs, a smaller oval logo facing west and monument signs at both site entrances. Andy Jacoby, identified as the franchisee, said the tenant will light its signs only during business hours and expects the store to open “early to mid January.” Board members asked about mounting methods and whether brick patching or power washing would be done after removal of previous signage; Jacoby said the tenant or landlord would address any patching to ensure a clean storefront.
All three permits were approved after brief public presentations and board questions. Each motion passed by voice vote with the board recording unanimous "ayes." The board also approved the Oct. 7 meeting minutes at the start of the session.
The session included routine procedural steps and no other policy or code changes were adopted.
