The Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors on Oct. 21 presented a certificate of excellence to the Chatham High School girls soccer team in recognition of a historic 2025 season.
Board members praised the team’s 16–2–1 overall record, an undefeated regular season, a Region 2C runner-up finish, consecutive Dogwood District championships and the program’s first-ever advancement to the Virginia High School League state tournament. The board highlighted that the program also produced multiple student-athletes who have gone on to play in college in recent seasons.
Mark Shields, who addressed the board, and the school’s athletic and activities director (identified in the transcript as Vocast) thanked coaches and staff and emphasized the team’s academic performance and community support. Shields noted long-term investments in local youth soccer, including land provided for Southside Soccer activities and clubhouse renovations behind the old Blairs Middle School.
The board’s certificate of excellence was presented by Supervisor Kenneth Veil Bowman and signed by Board Chair Robert N. Tucker Jr.
Context
Speakers stressed that the program contributes both athletic achievement and student development, including attendance and academic performance. No policy or funding action accompanied the recognition.
No formal motions were associated with the presentation; it was recorded as a ceremonial presentation on the agenda.
