PELSB unveils public educator‑licensure data dashboard

The Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board unveiled a public data dashboard on April 25 that displays licensure counts, permissions, tiered‑licensure breakdowns and a first release of workforce metrics drawn from Minnesota’s STAR reporting system.
PELSB staff said the dashboard provides high‑level, searchable views of educator licensure and workforce information and will be expanded to include educator preparation data (DSR 25), compliance and licensure‑assignment detail, and a live licensing count. The dashboard uses five‑year windows (with a rolling five‑year display planned) and includes definitions and explanatory notes to help users interpret the STAR‑based workforce data. Staff noted that some districts did not submit STAR this year, which affects year‑to‑year comparisons.
The dashboard includes separate buckets for: educator preparation and pathways (coming soon), tiered licensure and permissions (current), and educator workforce (STAR data). Staff said the dashboard aims to reduce routine staff data requests by providing public access to commonly requested tables and to support policy work such as measuring progress on recruiting and retaining teachers of color.
PELSB staff demonstrated navigation, the ability to filter by license field and tier, and explanatory information buttons describing counts and methodology. Staff said next steps include a live dashboard for daily license counts and the inclusion of licensure compliance and assignment data.
