School board renews Chartwells food-service contract; company proposes 3.1% administrative increase

The Big Lake Public School District School Board approved a one-year renewal of its food-service management contract with Chartwells for the 2025–26 school year.
District finance staff presented the memo describing the contract. Staff said this is the fourth year of the district’s relationship under a five-year allowance (an initial contract plus four renewals), after which the district must solicit proposals. Chartwells proposed a 3.1% increase in administrative fees tied to inflation; staff said that change would raise the per-meal administrative fee from 21.43¢ to 22.09¢. The contract remains cost-reimbursable and includes per-meal and administrative fees.
Board members who spoke praised the district’s new food-service director and said they were pleased with Chartwells’ performance. Board member Seixberry made the motion to renew the contract and Board member Brown seconded; the motion carried.
District staff said they will begin the required solicitation process after the fifth year of the agreement, as allowed under the district’s contract rules.
