The Rush Valley Town Council reviewed the cemetery budget and approved a $3,000 expenditure to buy and install fence slats for a privacy fence between private property and the cemetery.
Lacey, who manages cemetery matters, reported a budget of $8,500 with $2,026 spent to date and recent additional income from plaque sales and cash donations. The Clover Church reported expenditures of $13,009.54 and fund-raising and donations that brought the organization’s available funds to roughly $11,300 before the town’s allocation. Council members said the town previously gave Clover Church $6,000 from the general fund and that combined donations and the town allocation put the church’s total receipts at about $18,300; after accounting for additional small expenses, council staff calculated that the church would still have roughly $4,000 available.
Council action: Toward the end of the meeting the council added an agenda item and approved up to $3,000 from the cemetery budget for fence slats/privacy fencing to be used to separate the cemetery from adjacent property. Council members agreed Lacey will report back with firm pricing as the work proceeds.
Why it matters: The expenditure supports Memorial Day preparation and addresses privacy/maintenance concerns adjacent to the cemetery. The Clover Church’s listing on the state historical registry was also discussed and council members were invited to a National Register review committee meeting (virtual) on May 15.
