The decision came as members sought to finish work on the fiscal-year budget. "On the May 12, we have a public hearing. We'll have town council meeting and then we'll have a budget work meeting. 3 separate meetings," said Participant 1 (meeting participant). Participant 1 and others discussed whether to schedule the work session before or after the council meeting and whether to set fixed start times or use the phrase "immediately following" in public notices because the length of earlier items was uncertain.
Participant 1 raised logistics concerns about posting and the effect of variable meeting lengths: "How that posting looks, because we're trying to stack 3 meetings on top of each other. The first meeting can have a hard start time, but we don't know if that first meeting is gonna go 10 minutes or 90 minutes, which will affect the second and third meeting. So is it appropriate for us to say immediately following and then immediately following? Immediately following." Participant 3 said scheduling the sessions to follow the council meeting would increase the chance that community members attend: "Yeah. Let's do that. And then go into our town. And that way, that way, community members are here."
Participants also discussed short alternatives such as meeting immediately after a concert or starting at 7 p.m. and proceeding through the ARPA agenda item to save time. Participant 3 suggested a brief, post-meeting work session: "Let's just do it at 7 and then do it after. Yeah. I I think I think we just fit it in right after the the ARPA movement." Participant 2 added a light practical note: "I'd say bring snacks. I can bring."
A separate, brief comment during the meeting advised attendees how to subscribe to Congresswoman Malloy's newsletter: "Malloy.house.gov," said Participant 2, who spelled the name aloud to help listeners.
The meeting closed with a motion to adjourn. Participant 1 made the motion, Participant 3 seconded it, and the meeting was adjourned after a voice vote in which those present answered "Aye."
