Planning staff reviews active projects, Collierville 2050 kickoff and other updates

Planning staff provided an update on development activity in Collierville, pointing stakeholders to the town’s online development activity map and summarizing several active projects and administrative items.

Staff noted the Braywolf (also referenced as Brave Wolf) subdivision rezoning that was on the commission’s agenda and the Mercedes site changes and CUP under review. Staff said Maves Tavern (replacement of High Landing) submitted exterior changes that were approved administratively, Orion Federal Credit Union submitted a facade repaint request, and St. Patrick’s Church has applications related to an outdoor pavilion and playground that are under administrative review and involve a two-lot adjustment for setbacks.

Staff also described the status of a hotel on the south side of Nankana that has a stop-work order because a hard surface (asphalt or concrete) has not been installed around the tall building; the fire marshal took part in that stop-work decision. Staff said the hotel owner has submitted interior reconfiguration requests and plans to add a swimming pool but that work has been slow. A gas-station project at Byhalia and Collierville mobilized earth-moving work to meet a deadline tied to its approval but has shown limited activity since then.

Looking ahead, staff said Collierville 2050 public engagement begins with a presence at Fair on the Square and a public session under the gazebo; results will feed into a SWOT analysis for the comprehensive-plan update. Staff announced that the June planning commission is expected to be short (likely one final-plat consent item for Lockwood) and that July’s meeting will be Tuesday, July 8, instead of the first Thursday because of the July 4 holiday. Staff also introduced new planner Nandita Banick, who starts full time this month.
