Hardee County commissioners accepted a proclamation at their May 1 workshop recognizing May 4–10, 2025, as National Correctional Officers Week.
A county representative reading the proclamation asked the commission to publicly recognize detention deputies and correctional officers for the hazards and stresses of their work. Speakers at the meeting described detention staff duties—custody, crisis de-escalation, medical response and suicide prevention—and urged public acknowledgement of their service.
Sheriff’s office representatives and correctional staff attended in uniform and the board posed for a group photo with the proclamation. Several commissioners thanked the detention staff for their service and noted that the proclamation would provide formal recognition ahead of the observance week.
The proclamation text read that the board “does hereby proclaim the week of May [4]–10, 2025 as National Correctional Officers Week” in Hardee County and “encourages all citizens to join us in honoring” corrections staff. No separate vote transcript was recorded; the meeting record shows presentation and acceptance of the proclamation and a photo opportunity.
