DEMIS Region 5: coordinator vacancy, hiring scrutiny and upcoming hurricane-flood workshop at Post University

Bob Kenny, the DEMIS Region 1 Emergency Management Coordinator, and Henry (Hank) of the Region 5 office updated the council on emergency-management staffing and upcoming workshops.
Kenny said the Region 5 coordinator position (previously held by John Field) is being covered on a rotating basis by other regional coordinators and that the Region 5 voicemail and general email are being forwarded so local emergency-management directors should still be able to reach a coordinator. He said replacing the vacancy is a priority but the state hiring process is under scrutiny and hiring timelines are uncertain.
Henry (Hank) reported strong municipal participation in the 2024 Emergency Management Performance Grant (EMPG) program and said reimbursement processes will move to a more streamlined, deliberately based system that will reduce municipal administrative burden. Kenny and Hank also announced the Hurricane 'Mean Business' flood workshop at Post University on the evening of May 1, open to the public, and said flyers will be circulated by the COG.
Kenny asked members to be patient while the region refills staff and noted that day-to-day services are being maintained by the covering coordinators.
