City announces mobility hub plan, Dayton Avenue North sidewalk open house and bike-safety class

City Manager Ellington opened the April 28 meeting by announcing several staff projects and community events.
Ellington said the shared-use mobility hub plan is now available online; the plan identifies proposed hub locations, design concepts and phased implementation strategies intended to improve connectivity and reduce reliance on personal vehicles. Staff also announced an open house for the Dayton Avenue North sidewalk project, which will construct a sidewalk between Northwest Richmond Beach Road and North 170th Court and will include curb and gutter, bicycle facilities, curb ramps and ADA improvements, crosswalks and drainage upgrades.
The city and Cascade Bicycle Club are hosting an off-bike skills class Wednesday, April 30, for beginner and intermediate riders; the class will cover riding equipment, bike infrastructure and rules of the road and will be held in the City Hall Council Chambers and by Zoom. The announcement tied the class to the broader Pedal Forward Shoreline program, which staff described as aiming to improve air quality, connectivity and reduce greenhouse gas emissions related to vehicle travel.
Ellington also noted the All Eyes on Me exhibit of work by four female artists, a Shoreline Walks event on May 2 and upcoming advisory-body meetings including the Planning Commission on May 1 and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Tree Board on May 22.
