Wylie Library sets summer schedule: Priscilla’s play wall opening May 23, kickoff May 30 and Friends sale in July

At its April meeting the Wylie Library Advisory Board received an overview of the library’s 2025 summer schedule, community events and recent recognitions.
Library staff said the community is invited to the grand opening of Priscilla’s play wall at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23. "You're all welcome to attend," the staff member said. The play wall will include five square sensory panels, one rectangular panel, vinyl clouds and a lighted cloud-shaped plaque in memory of Priscilla; staff said family members will attend and provide refreshments.
Summer learning and events
The library’s summer learning theme is "Color Our World," with programs that run May 19 through Aug. 2 and prizes for children, teens and adults. Staff described reading goals and giveaways: children and teens may qualify for prizes for reading 10 hours or 25 books per log and each returned log earns a free paperback. Prize examples include a Nintendo Switch Lite for kids, anime and manga packs for teens and an adult prize drawing that includes interactive art-experience gift cards. Prizes become available beginning June 16.
The summer kickoff party is scheduled for Friday, May 30. Overflow parking will be at Collin College with shuttle service provided by Wylie ISD. Staff said some changes this year include smaller inflatables (about 16 feet) and moving food trucks closer to the main event area.
Other community items
- Friends of the Library bookmark contest winners will be printed and distributed; winners receive 10 bookmarks each. - Friends book sale: members-only presale on July 18; general sale on July 19 (sale hours shortened to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.). - Story times resume June 2 after a May break; sensory story time will meet weekly on Wednesdays at 2:15 p.m. during the summer. - The library app was noted as a success; staff said it launched in October (exact year not stated) and patrons can scan barcodes to check holdings.

Staff thanked volunteers and partners and said they will post registration information for programs and require registration for many adult events. The board did not take formal action on these event items during the meeting.
