The East Grand Forks Public School District Board of Education voted May 5, 2025, to reduce the assignment of a probationary teacher to half time for the 2025-26 school year, accept $5,446.67 in donations for school programs and approve checks totaling $469,394.66.
The actions were taken during routine business at the board—s meeting, where trustees also confirmed the agenda and consent items. The teacher reduction, donations acceptance and payment of claims were each moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
The board adopted a resolution reducing Marcelo Campo Verde—s assignment from 1.0 full-time equivalent to 0.5 FTE for the 2025-26 school year "in accordance with applicable statutes," the board record shows. Board members said the change was driven by staffing needs in the district—s technology role: the teacher had previously been hired halftime, moved to a larger assignment to cover a tech vacancy, and the district has posted the position and has a backup plan to fill the technology work for next year. Board members described the change as not a reflection on Campo Verde—s performance and praised his work.
The board approved acceptance of multiple donations totaling $5,446.67 for district schools and activities. The listed donations were: $1,291.53 from Deacs to Central Middle School (CMS) for Outsiders Day; $884.09 from EGF Boosters to Girls' Golf for an umbrella with logo; $2,681.80 from EGF Boosters to football for a new water system; $100 from Tammy Sailor to CMS for Outsiders Day; $50 from Thrivent and Ellen Honeck to CMS for Outsiders Day; $100 from Crookston Classic Cruisers to CMS for Outsiders Day; $339.25 from Hugo's to EGF for arts and music; 10 jean jackets from Jane Add Adanson to CMS for Outsiders Day; and a donation valued at over $70 from New Hope for Immigrants to the CMS library. The board accepted the package of donations by voice vote.
Trustees also approved payment of checks numbered 129285 through 129392 totaling $469,394.66, with no electronic funds transfers reported. The board approved the payment motion after a second and a voice vote.
Board members used the meeting to note other district items, including an upcoming presentation by ICS Nexus (a vendor that conducted building walkthroughs) scheduled for the May 12 meeting and a gold-star award received by Central Middle School for an innovation submission. The board announced a grievance hearing and a meet-and-confer session scheduled for May 5 in the same room, and discussed preliminary negotiations scheduling with bus drivers.
