Select Board authorizes DPW to help replace batting cages at Majors Field

Millis Youth Baseball received the Select Board's authorization to demolish the old batting cages at Majors Field and install new cages and concrete pads on the same footprint.
Pete Perubi, treasurer of Millis Youth Baseball, told the board the existing poles and netting are deteriorated and pose a safety risk. Perubi said the proposed replacement would use suspended cables and six structural poles so the netting would not touch poles and would reduce ricochets. He described fundraising commitments from local businesses and DPW assistance for demolition.
A board member moved that the board "authorize the Department of Public Works to assist Millis Youth Baseball with the demolition and disposal of the old batting cages and concrete foundations at Majors Field and to allow Millis Youth Baseball to install new batting cages and concrete pads at the same location." The motion passed unanimously.
Perubi said the group is deciding whether the group would gift the new system to the town or retain ownership; the board did not require a change in ownership at the time of approval. The town advised that if a concrete pad or other change requires permit review, Millis Youth Baseball should submit the appropriate permit application.
