Sheriff Daniels urges caution in highway construction zones; office notes retirements and condolences

Cochise County Sheriff Mark Daniels used his KWCD First Watch appearance to urge drivers to exercise caution around highway construction zones and to highlight recent personnel and community updates from the sheriff's office.
Discussing an incident he observed while driving on State Route 90 toward Sierra Vista, Daniels said a vehicle drove through barricades and into a construction area. "When you're in a construction zone, you have to have to be, you know, you gotta be vigilant," Daniels said. He described workers' frustration and asked drivers to show patience while a major paving project is completed; he said the project is expected to finish within weeks and mentioned June as the month by which he understood it would be completed.
Daniels also recognized a longtime employee, "Mr. Talpucker," who is retiring after 43 years of service, including time in the U.S. Marine Corps and as an explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) specialist and major-crimes supervisor with the Cochise County Sheriff's Office. Daniels said Talpucker's last day would be the coming week and thanked him for his service.
The sheriff offered condolences for two law-enforcement figures who recently died: John Munch, a former U.S. Border Patrol patrol agent in charge, and Mario Morales, a former chief deputy in Santa Cruz County who had a stroke and later died after life support was removed. Daniels described both as longtime friends and public-safety leaders.
