Board converts two school days to staff professional-development days for 2025–26 calendar

The Mehlville R-IX Board of Education voted 6–0 April 20 to change two dates on the 2025–26 academic calendar from student contact days to full professional learning days for staff.
Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith presented a draft of the 2025–26 calendar and said district leaders recommended converting Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025 and Tuesday, April 7, 2026 to full professional-development days (students not present). Smith said the change preserves required instructional hours and aligns to the district’s planning for staff safety and training during election-day periods.
A board motion to approve the calendar change passed on a voice vote, recorded 6–0. Smith and other staff indicated the district will retain adequate instructional hours under state law and will use one or more of the converted days for staff professional learning.
The district will publish the updated 2025–26 calendar on its website and communicate schedule changes to families and staff.
