Sierra Vista police offer free VIN etching at mall Saturday to deter vehicle theft

Corporal Scott Borgstadt of the Sierra Vista Police Department told KWCD First Watch that the department will host a free VIN-etching event Saturday at the Sierra Vista Mall to help reduce vehicle theft and parts resale.
"It's a great way to help protect your vehicle from being stolen," Corporal Scott Borgstadt said. He said the etching takes about 10–15 minutes per vehicle, will be set up on the mall's east side near the Wells Fargo area, and runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Borgstadt said the department works with the Citizens Police Academy Associates for the event; volunteers help clean and prepare windows while officers perform the etching. The department stated the service is free but donations are accepted.
The department framed the event as a preventive measure that is simpler than investigating stolen-vehicle cases after the fact. Borgstadt encouraged residents to use the service and to contact the Sierra Vista Police Department for more information.
