Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative to test four-day, longer workweek; annual meeting set for May 29

Jason Bowling, chief executive officer of Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative, and Corey East, SSVEC vice president of marketing and communications, told KWCD's First Watch radio program that the cooperative will begin a six-month trial of a four-day, 10-hour schedule to test operational savings and member service impacts.
"We are going to be going to a 04:10 schedule starting June 2," Jason Bowling said on the program. Corey East added, "we're doing a 6 month trial period. Before that 6 month trial period ends, we'll make a decision as to whether or not we'll continue." Both said crews and outage response will remain available 24/7 regardless of office hours.
SSVEC said the trial will staff departments from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with offices closed Fridays during the test. East said the change aims to reduce utility costs associated with facility and fleet operations and to provide more in-person availability before and after standard work shifts.
The cooperative warned that some satellite offices — identified on the program as Patagonia and a location referred to as "Alfredo" — already operate different schedules; East said those offices will continue to provide service during posted hours and that members should use online tools such as SmartHub for routine transactions.
SSVEC also promoted its annual meeting on May 29 at Buena High School's Klein Center in Sierra Vista. Registration opens at 6 p.m.; the meeting begins at 7 p.m. The cooperative told listeners every member who attends will receive a $25 bill credit, and the event will include safety demonstrations, board and CEO updates, and raffle prizes.
Bowling and East said the cooperative will monitor the trial through a full monsoon season and decide whether to adopt the schedule permanently after the six-month test.
