City council approves Eversource work to install conduit for new lighting cabinet on Warren Street

The New Bedford City Council on March 27 approved a petition from NSTAR Electric Company, doing business as Eversource Energy, to install one handhole and roughly 27 feet of conduit on Warren Street to provide electric service to a new city lighting control cabinet.

The petition was presented as part of a public hearing called by the council. Jessica Elder, representing Eversource, told the council the work will begin at an existing handhole on Rodney French Boulevard, expose one of three spare ducts and proceed underneath Rodney French onto Warren Street. She said the work is intended to serve a new city lighting cabinet on the north side of Warren Street, near the corner of Rodney French Boulevard, and estimated the work would take one to two days. "So the work should take one to two days," Elder said.

Councilors received the petition, opened the public hearing and, after no speakers registered in favor or opposition, closed the hearing. The council then voted to adopt the order as presented. The motion to receive and place on file and open the public hearing was made by Councilor Joseph Lopes and seconded by Councilor Sean Oliver. A later motion to adopt the order was made by Councilor Lopes and seconded by Councilor Oliver; the presiding officer announced “the ayes have it.”

During the hearing the council asked whether the work would disrupt electric service. Councilor Linda Morad asked, "Do you expect any disruption to service?" Elder replied the duct work involves spare ducts and she did not expect a service disruption.

The order appears on the council docket as the company’s work order number 19236642 and was adopted without recorded opposition.
