Andrew Gallia, representing Saint Mary's Orthodox Church, told the Cedar Park City Council that construction on a new church building is roughly 50% complete and that the parish hopes to hold a consecration and celebration on Sept. 8.
Gallia said the church will expand community services with a community center, a food-distribution partnership with Central Texas Food Bank, a clothing closet to help residents seek employment, and a soup kitchen that may operate at least one day a week depending on funding. He said the parish has been in Cedar Park since February 2009 and expects the new facility to serve future generations.
The comments were offered during the public-communications portion of the meeting; council thanked the parish representative and received a pamphlet with project details. No council action was required or taken.
