The superintendent said Burton was chosen following a committee-driven interview process and a meet-the-teacher event where Burton greeted students arriving on campus. "He was out there opening the doors for all the kids that are driving down the parking lot," a district speaker said.
Burton addressed the board briefly: "I'm just very excited to take on this new challenge and get to know all the teachers and kids in the community of Hutchins," he said.
Administrators who served on the selection committee praised the applicant pool and the process. The board welcomed Burton and several supporters who attended the meeting, including family and district staff. The announcement was made before the board went into closed session; no additional board action was recorded following the public introduction.
