The El Campo Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a one-year custodial-services contract with IQS that will begin June 1, district staff told the board.
District Director of Operations Mr. Wells said the district selected IQS through the BuyBoard cooperative after terminating its prior custodial contract. “Our recommendation on this evening will be that we go with IQS to be our custodial service provider for the upcoming school year. A one-year contract,” Wells said.
District staff told trustees the new contract will raise monthly custodial costs from roughly $80,000 a month under the previous arrangement to “about a hundred and three” thousand dollars a month. Wells and another staff member said the contract includes wage increases for custodial employees—“about a dollar fifty to $2 more per hour”—and adds approximately five employees to meet industry staffing standards.
Wells said the district considered vendor references and employee treatment in its choice. “One of the areas that we felt IQS stood out was in their treatment of their employees,” he said, adding the district intends for local custodial workers to be considered by the new vendor if they apply.
Board members discussed whether current custodial staff would be retained; administrators said staff would need to apply to IQS because the employer would change. Administrators noted the contract also funds “a different level of management structure” and a dedicated manager assigned to the district.
Trustees voted to approve the contract by voice/hand vote; the motion passed with no roll-call tally recorded in the public minutes.
The contract award and staffing changes were discussed during the business portion of the meeting; board members approved the item after a motion and second.
