Thornton council adopts 2024 International Codes and 2023 NEC with local amendments

Nielsen told council staff, the Building Code Advisory Board and local stakeholders were involved in drafting local amendments.
Why it matters: adoption aligns Thornton with several surrounding jurisdictions and advances energy and safety updates in building standards. The ordinance also clarifies a city code section to prevent city employees from serving on the Building Code Advisory Board.
Councilmember Ayala introduced the ordinance and moved for immediate approval; the motion passed on unanimous roll call. City staff will present implementing ordinances for affected code sections at the scheduled public hearing on May 13, according to the presentation.
