The Revere Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to grant a variance that will allow construction of a 12.5‑by‑19‑foot rear deck at 24 Shurtleff St.
The variance, sought by applicant John Durand, was granted Thursday after the board said the appellant must submit a plot plan prepared to the board’s specifications and meet standard recording and site‑plan review requirements before applying for a building permit. The board’s stated conditions include: exercise of the variance within one year or lapse of rights; recordation of the variance and plan in the Suffolk County Registry of Deeds with recording numbers and dates submitted to the city clerk and building inspector; and site‑plan approval done in accordance with the Zoning Board of Appeals’ specifications prior to a building permit.
John Durand identified himself as the construction general contractor for 24 Shurtleff St. He told the board the application is to obtain relief from the Revere revised zoning ordinances, section 17‑2‑4‑0‑1‑0 (Rear Yard Deck Setback for Decks), to construct the deck. The board’s chair and members discussed and confirmed that final approval would be contingent on the required plan and recording steps.
Chairman Tucker and members Mr. Lemina, Mr. Lopes, Mr. O’Brien and Mr. Pelton each voted “yes” in a roll call vote; the motion was approved and the variance granted subject to the stated conditions.
The board indicated that, once the applicant submits a plot plan meeting their specifications and completes the required recordings, the building permit process can proceed through the city’s normal site‑plan and permitting review.
