Library board updates computer/internet policy, raises unattended-child age to 12

The Lakeville Library Board of Trustees on Wednesday approved an updated, consolidated computer and Internet use policy and amended its rules of conduct to raise the unattended-child age from 10 to 12.

The director presented a single combined policy that folded wireless and Wi-Fi guidance into the library's computer and Internet use policy to avoid cross-references across documents. Trustee Patrick Marshall moved to accept the updated policy and Trustee Nancy Laffey seconded; the motion passed by voice vote.

The board also made a housekeeping change to the rules of conduct: trustees voted to change the age specified in the unattended-child policy from 10 years to 12 years. The motion to approve the change was moved and seconded during the meeting and approved by voice vote.

Board members said the unattended-child age change was previously discussed and is reflected in both the rules of conduct and the computer-use policy. The library director said she will bring a volunteer policy to the board at the next meeting; that policy was not before the board for approval on Wednesday.

Both policy votes were taken by voice and carried without recorded opposition.
