Residents press drainage concerns as Wylie tables Country Club Estates preliminary plat

The Wylie City Council on April 22 voted to table a preliminary plat for Country Club Estates so the applicant can revise drainage plans after residents described persistent flooding along McMillan Road and Muddy Creek.

The council approved the applicant’s request to postpone consideration of the preliminary plat (Country Club Estates) — a proposal to create 173 residential lots, seven HOA lots and associated infrastructure on about 59.755 acres generally located at 1755 FM 1378 and 1813 and 2241 McMillan Road — until the May 13 meeting. The motion to table, made by Councilman Gino Maleche and seconded by Councilman Dave Strang, carried 7–0.

Two residents who live near McMillan Road told the council that flooding has increased during construction and that current plans — which include a proposed bridge over a creek — do not address underlying drainage problems. Christie Thromberg, who lives at 1423 Bearpaw Lane, told the council: “Now that the road is closed, the alerts have stopped, but the flooding has not. It's actually worse than ever,” and said the problem extends beyond the S curves to the entire stretch of McMillan.
