Kings County adopts proclamation declaring April 2025 Child Abuse Prevention Month after CAPC annual report

The Kings County Board of Supervisors on April 22 received an annual report from the Child Abuse Prevention Coordinating Council (CAPC) and adopted a resolution proclaiming April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month.
Monica Connor, assistant director of the Human Services Agency and vice chair of CAPC, summarized the council's work bringing together child welfare, behavioral health, education, public health, law enforcement and community organizations to coordinate prevention efforts. She said CAPC administers prevention funds through community-based grants, supports mandated-reporter training, and leads community engagement such as Kids Day and the LISA immersive exhibit.
Connor provided 2024 Child Welfare hotline statistics: 2,470 calls to the county hotline in 2024 and 989 investigations. CAPC chair Emery Marple described recent outreach: Kids Day (April 5) with 236 attendees, 33 vendors, LISA project tours and pinwheel awareness displays across county cities. Marple said CAPC had 12 active members and announced a new Positive Parenting Program partnering with Northstar.
The board voted 5-0 to receive the report and to adopt the proclamation declaring April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month. Supervisors and several presenters invited board members to tour the LISA project and noted CAPC will expand quarterly activities to other cities in the county.
