Local resident warns commissioners a proposed 5,000-seat Fitzhugh concert venue could worsen wildfire and evacuation risks

Tamara Engle submitted a written public comment read into the record April 22 expressing safety concerns about a proposed 5,000-seat Fitzhugh concert venue located close to the county line.
Engle said her neighborhood has a single exit and narrow roads without shoulders, limited water supplies with many wells running low and no fire hydrants. She said in a severe wildfire or other emergency, traffic generated by a large venue would worsen already long emergency response times and could impede ambulances.
"A fire breaking out in this neighborhood would be devastating because there are no fire hydrants," Engle wrote. She also mentioned concerns about waste, water access and impacts to the hill country landscape and wildlife and urged commissioners not to "sell us out to developers, especially when it concerns our safety."
The comment was recorded as part of the public-comment period; no formal action on the site or an application was taken by the court at the meeting.
