Kaufman County Commissioners Court approved two equipment purchases for Precinct 3 Road & Bridge: a Develon DX-89R excavator and a Bobcat compact track loader, both to be procured through BuyBoard contract 685-22.
Procurement staff presented the purchases after securing three quotes and said the selected vendors met purchasing requirements. “This meets all the purchasing requirements. After we got our three quotes, this was the one that commissioner chose,” a procurement staff member said when introducing the excavator request.
The court authorized staff to issue a purchase order for the excavator. For the Bobcat compact track loader, staff said the vendor’s quote included a $1,500 freight charge that was not part of the original vendor quote; commissioners approved the purchase with the understanding that the $1,500 freight charge would be removed from the order if the vendor would waive it. The presentation also noted that two attachment items (listed as 73492 and 50692 on the quote) were removed at the commissioner’s request.
A motion to approve the excavator purchase was made and seconded; the court approved the issuance of a purchase order. A separate motion to approve the Bobcat purchase carried after commissioners directed staff to exclude the $1,500 freight charge if the vendor would not waive it, and to proceed with pickup as an alternative.
Why this matters: The purchases are routine road-equipment replacements and additions for Precinct 3 Road & Bridge and will be funded through existing purchasing processes. Staff said the BuyBoard contract met purchasing rules; commissioners asked staff to confirm freight and attachment details before final invoicing.
Staff will finalize purchase orders once vendors confirm freight and attachment pricing; commissioners did not provide a public estimate of the total purchase price during the meeting.
