Hays County renames County Road 158 as Porterfield Drive to honor longtime transportation official

The Hays County Commissioners Court on April 22 approved renaming County Road 158 (formerly Firecracker Drive) to Porterfield Drive in Precinct 2 to honor Wynton Covey Porterfield, a longtime county transportation official.
Commissioner Debbie Inglesby introduced the item and said the change was recommended by Development Services and the Transportation Department to recognize Wynton's decades of service to the county. Jennifer Michigamba, Hays County director of transportation, described Porterfield as "the glue" of the department who helped coordinate projects and build consensus across staff and elected officials.
Kim Porterfield, Wynton's widow and a long-time Hays County resident, outlined his career in county service dating to the 1990s and his work on cemetery preservation, planning and historic restoration. She thanked the court and family and friends who attended the presentation. Several current and former colleagues recounted personal memories and described Porterfield's influence on transportation planning and cemetery preservation efforts.
The court made a formal motion and recorded a unanimous roll call in favor of the renaming. County staff said a public unveiling ceremony will be scheduled and that signage and administrative actions to effect the change will follow.
Action taken The court voted to accept renaming County Road 158 to Porterfield Drive; the motion passed by unanimous roll call. Staff will schedule a public unveiling and complete the administrative steps necessary to change the road name.
