The Manor Independent School District Board of Trustees voted April 21 to hire Candice Smith as principal of Manor High School.
Trustee Patterson moved to approve the hire; Trustee Martinez seconded the motion. "I move that the board approve the hire of Candace Smith as principal of Manor High School," Trustee Patterson said before the board voted. The board approved the hire by a 6–0 vote.
Superintendent Dr. Sarmani introduced Smith to the board and described her as an experienced 6A high school principal with an early-college component who had previously led a 3,500-student campus. Smith addressed the board briefly after the vote, saying she was "grateful for the opportunity to lead" and that seeing the scholars being honored earlier in the meeting had been "electrifying."
The board approved the hire in open session following the public forum and recognitions. The action was recorded as agenda item 8.1 on the meeting agenda.
