The Livonia Public Schools Board of Education voted April 21 to reallocate $950,000 from the bond program owner’s contingency to fund design enhancements for the Churchill High School Library Media Center (LMC) renovation.
The motion, made by Board member Jarvis and seconded by Johnson, approved the recommendation of the district’s owner’s representative, Plant Moran RealPoint, to apply contingency funds to the Churchill LMC project. Plant Moran RealPoint and district staff described the amount as previously allocated bond dollars that had been returned to the district after other projects came in below budget.
"These are bond dollars. They were allocated to previous projects and these were dollars that were returned to the district," district staff explained during the presentation, clarifying the funds are not new money but a reallocation of previously approved bond authority.
Board members asked whether the dollars were previously unspent contingency amounts; staff confirmed they were contingency funds that became available when earlier projects came in under budget.
The board approved the motion in a roll-call vote with all members recorded as voting yes.
No implementation timeline for the LMC renovation was discussed in detail at the meeting; staff had previously reviewed project details in study sessions and committee meetings, which the board president noted were recorded and available on the district website.
The vote authorizes district staff to move forward with the specified design enhancements using the approved contingency funds.
