Aquatic center nears completion; Roy Walker updates and summer program registration underway

Parks and recreation staff reported construction progress at the new aquatic center and updates for Roy Walker recreation facility and the summer youth program.
Amy (recreation manager) said the aquatic center roof is complete, contractors were installing side windows, the pool heater was being replaced, and crews were power-washing the pool in preparation to refill it. She said staff were optimistic about progress and that Potter pool cleaning was planned for the week.
At Roy Walker, staff reported floors are finished, some doors and garage elements remain pending, a small concession cooler now offers drinks, and a new recommended hire (Nicholas Williams) was presented for a recreation-assistant position. Amy said five people applied and she recommended Williams for hire.
Staff outlined the summer youth program schedule and field trips, including visits to the zoo, Clovis Fun Center, Paula's Dairy, local library programming, Windrush alpaca farm, a base tour and bowling, and multiple pool/splash-pad visits. Guest speakers planned include police K-9 and fire engine demonstrations; Mayor Morris had agreed to speak at a program event. Amy said registration went live in early April and, as of the meeting, one person had registered; she noted the program price will increase on May 2.
Committee members asked staff to continue outreach to boost registration and to confirm staffing and field-trip logistics ahead of the summer season.
