Joshua City Council reviews capital-improvement requests, discusses county radio reserve and staff updates

Joshua City Council on May 25 reviewed requests in its draft capital improvement plan and discussed a county proposal for a multi-jurisdiction radio reserve fund, city staff said, while also approving its March meeting minutes and hearing several staff updates.

The council heard a summary of department capital requests from city staff. "The CIP plan is ordered by the charter," said Mister Peacock, a city staff member leading the presentation, adding the council will adopt the plan with the upcoming budget. Peacock said the police department requested $42,740 for two projects, including a Flock camera system estimated at $16,000, and that public works accounted for the largest share of requests, listing about $7,453,000 for street, drainage and equipment projects. Parks requested about $79,000 for a skid steer and animal services requested just under $40,000 for kennel-area work. Peacock said the total of all department requests noted in the draft is $7,615,000.

Why it matters: the capital-improvement plan (CIP) sets priorities and frames what the city will try to fund when the council adopts the budget later this year.
