Board approves summer feeding program and Community Eligibility Provision for 2025–26

The Muhlenberg County Board approved continuation of the summer feeding program for 2025 and the district’s participation in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2025–26 school year to provide free meals to all students.
The Muhlenberg County Board of Education approved two food-service initiatives: the district will continue a summer feeding program for summer 2025, and it will participate in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2025–26 school year.
Miss Cooper of the food-service department presented the summer-feeding recommendation and said the program would operate again this summer; she will provide details on last year’s participation numbers to board members on request. The board approved the program by voice vote after a motion from Mr. Johar and a second from Miss Yount.
The board also approved the district’s use of the Community Eligibility Provision, which provides free breakfast and lunch to every enrolled student regardless of household income in eligible districts. The presenter said Muhlenberg County is eligible because of its percentage of students qualifying for Medicaid, SNAP or foster care; because the district qualifies as a “severe need” county it will receive an additional 6% reimbursement on top of the normal federal reimbursement. The presenter said CEP participation is federally funded and “at no cost to the district.”
The board approved CEP for the 2025–26 school year by voice vote (motion and second recorded). Staff will implement CEP enrollment and meal-service logistics for the coming school year.
