Board approves change orders for Muhlenberg middle-school field house; water-line replacement and dugout work included

The board approved change order No. 1 to address sinkholes and drainage work and approved change order No. 2 to remove and replace a brittle 3-inch PVC water line back to the existing middle school. Staff said replacing the full run is preferable to repeatedly repairing failures in old pipe.
Change order No. 3 covers replacement and related work for a press box and dugouts that were demolished by wind; staff said the originally supplied paperwork contained a clerical error with extra zeros and the board authorized approval while paperwork is corrected for signature.
Board members discussed interim safety measures for the baseball facility; staff said a temporary fence is installed and that a new dugout will be designed, though not in place for the current baseball season. The board approved the change orders by voice vote.
Facilities staff also described a broader set of renovation projects around the district—which are being value-engineered in some cases—after bids for some school projects came in significantly over initial target budgets. Staff said architects and contractors are working to reduce costs by altering finishes and some nonessential space so projects can align closer to budget targets.
Motions to approve the three field-house change orders passed on voice votes during the meeting and staff said they will return corrected paperwork for signature.
