Local Leadership San Ramon group urges 988 awareness; plans May 15 event

Donna Brown, a San Ramon resident and member of the Leadership San Ramon Valley class of 2025, told the City Council on March 11 that the class project is promoting awareness of the 988 mental-health crisis line and is coordinating with city staff and first responders to install permanent signage and run social-media outreach.
Brown said 988 provides immediate support by call or text for anyone in mental-health distress and that some students and families may not be aware of the service. She said class members have met with the city manager, the police chief and parks-and-recreation and public-works staff about partnering on permanent signs and social-media promotion. Brown announced a local 988 awareness event planned for May 15 at 5 p.m. (location to be determined) and said Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, who authored state legislation implementing 988 in California, will speak; she invited council and the public to attend.
Brown left flyers and provided contact information for follow-up; she also thanked the San Ramon Valley Education Foundation and San Ramon Chamber of Commerce for amplifying 988 messaging. Council members responded positively and staff offered to follow up on signage and outreach where appropriate.
