Library Director Rachel Fuel reported increases in meeting-room bookings and public computer use, and highlighted strong engagement with children’s programming. Fuel said meeting-room sessions “doubled since last year” and that internet computer usage is up, and noted continuing demand for public phone access.
The board discussed the library’s discretionary budget of $1,000 and options for allocation. Board members said in prior years roughly $400 went to event swag and the balance to program support and staff development; members discussed earmarking funds for summer reading prizes and conference support. Staff said a formal request could be prepared for the next meeting with more specific line items.
Staff also reported hiring activity: interviews were underway for multiple positions, two part-time library associates and a circulation supervisor had been hired, and additional interviews were scheduled. Staff described an upcoming in-service day for team connection and noted two upcoming closures.
Members shared community-event items: the library will participate in Earth Day at the Civic Center, the board was invited to staff booths and neighborhood nights, and the library had been named a hometown hero by a Girl Scout troop that donated more than 80 boxes of cookies to staff.
No formal budget vote was taken; the board asked staff to prepare a request for the next meeting specifying how the $1,000 would be allocated.
