Austin Peay State University’s year-long recruitment roadshow — described by staff as the “be a gov tour” or roadshow — reached prospective admitted students across Tennessee, university officials told the Academic Affairs Committee on Dec. 6.
Provost Maria Cronley said the events targeted admitted students and their families in cities from Memphis to Chattanooga and across the mid-state. Cronley said the roadshow places admissions staff, deans, student ambassadors and academic-support staff together to “seal the deal” and encourage matriculation.
Cronley said the program’s early results are encouraging. She told trustees the university interacted with 252 students in a stronger year after an inaugural year that drew about 90 attendees. Cronley said that in one earlier year the “articulation rate” reached 70 (the record in the transcript does not specify whether that is a percentage), and that another prior year’s articulation rate was recorded in the transcript as “60 64 point, 6%.” Cronley said the normal matriculation (yield) rate for the university is typically in the 20% range, making the roadshow’s reported rates notable. For the current cycle Cronley said the university saw 244 prospective students across all events and that nearly 100 of those students had already registered for an upcoming governor’s orientation event. Final yield cannot be calculated until the fall matriculation deadline.
Cronley credited the admissions team, led by Assistant Provost Amy Korolev, and logistics lead Nora Bierman for organizing the events. She thanked staff including Hondo Herrera and said members of the senior leadership team, deans and admissions personnel participated.
A trustee who attended the event said they enjoyed speaking with parents and prospective students and called the setup “a very good setup for the students across the state.” Cronley and Korolev were available to answer trustee questions.
The committee then adjourned.
