CCBC seeks county’s go‑ahead to submit two RAP grant applications for dome repairs and aviation center

Dr. Berg, vice president of operations at CCBC, told Beaver County commissioners in the April 30 work session that CCBC wants the county’s approval to submit two RAP grant applications: one to rehabilitate the dome (including roof resurfacing, new LED lighting and possible bleacher upgrades) and another to provide additional funding for the aviation science center project at the airport.
Dr. Berg told the board the dome application would total $450,000. He described the aviation request as additional funds for an existing aviation project; during the discussion an amount around $750,000 and a 50% match were referenced, and commissioners discussed that the redevelopment authority likely would be the sponsor for the application. Dr. Berg asked whether the application must go through the county or the conservation district; county staff clarified that the conservation district would not be the applicant and that the redevelopment authority would likely serve as sponsor while the county would be the taxing body associated with the projects.
Dr. Berg said he has partnered with Eccles Construction and an attorney to prepare the submissions and asked for verbal approval to proceed. Commissioners indicated informal agreement: a county official said the county report was “alright” and that the paperwork could be signed and placed on authorization next week, with formal approval to follow.
Dr. Berg noted the grant application deadline was imminent (May 2–3 timeframe as discussed during the meeting) and asked for coordination on signatures and submission. County staff agreed to circulate contact information and to coordinate sign-offs through the appropriate redevelopment authority and county offices.
The board did not record a formal vote at the work session; commissioners gave informal direction to proceed with the application process and to follow up with formal paperwork and authorization at a subsequent meeting.
