The Jefferson County Board of Commissioners adopted a proclamation April 23 designating April 2025 as Sexual Assault Awareness Month in Jefferson County and asked community members to support survivors, hold perpetrators accountable and participate in prevention efforts.
Joanna Gardner of Saving Grace, the regional victim services organization, addressed the board and outlined the organization's role providing services to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. The proclamation cites statistics on lifetime prevalence and highlights prevention and community engagement as central goals.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the proclamation and encouraged public awareness and local partnerships to expand services and prevention work.
