The Planning Commission reviewed and reappointed commissioner liaisons to local Land Use Advisory Committees (LUACs) at its April 30 meeting and heard staff warn of anticipated LUAC resignations and ongoing recruitment efforts for vacancies.
Staff said the liaison tracker is current and that the Clerk of the Commission is finalizing recruitment notices to boost membership on LUACs that have difficulty achieving quorums. Staff also advised commissioners that the Carmel Unincorporated Highlands LUAC may experience multiple resignations in the near term.
Commissioners discussed workload and suggested swaps to ensure primary and backup coverage for particular LUACs. Commissioner Hartsell volunteered to fill specific vacancies; commissioners Roberts and Deal suggested outreach to recruit additional community members for LUAC service.
Public comment included Margaret Kate, a former North County LUAC member, who noted that commissioner attendance at LUAC meetings is appreciated and reported the recent death of longtime North County LUAC member David Evans.
Ending: The Planning Commission voted to reappoint liaison assignments as listed in the staff tracker. Staff will continue outreach to recruit new LUAC members, especially in areas with low participation.
