Board recognizes Charles County students for state, national competitions and arts honors

School and district staff recognized a large group of Charles County students who won state and national awards in theater, esports, robotics, HOSA, music and more at the April 28 board work session.
Charles County Public Schools recognized dozens of students and teams at its April 28 work session for state‑level and national qualifications in Destination Imagination, robotics (SeaPerch), SkillsUSA, HOSA, drama (Thespians), and all‑state music ensembles.
Presenters from gifted, career‑technical and arts programs introduced teams and individual students who will advance to national competitions or who won state championships; participating schools included Maurice J. McDonough, Westlake, La Plata, North Point, St. Charles, and several elementary and middle schools.
The recognitions highlighted a wide set of academic and extracurricular pathways: winners in Destination Imagination will advance to the global finals in Kansas City, Missouri; an elementary SeaPerch robotics team will compete at the University of Maryland; several HOSA students qualified for a national conference in June; and multiple students were selected for Maryland All‑State ensembles. Athletics staff also announced winter state champions from the district.
The board applauded the honorees and thanked staff members who support competitive and arts programming across the district.
