Delegation hears update on CVP virtual clearance pilot; tests with CBP reported successful

At the Rotary Legislative Delegation special session April 25, 2025, Rick Obel reported progress on a CVP virtual-clearance pilot at Enrona, saying initial tests with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and customs and biosecurity officials were successful.
"I arrived here yesterday. We did a test run with CBP, and the connection went smoothly," Rick Obel said. He said a second test run the following morning also went well and that customs and biosecurity are prepared to collaborate on the pilot.
Obel said the pilot is awaiting an "annual draft" agreement among CBP, the Department of Finance division of customs and biosecurity, and the CPA before it can launch. He said he will provide further updates to the delegation as the agencies finalize the agreement.
Ending: Obel asked the delegation to extend appreciation to participating agencies; members acknowledged the update and requested further status reports as the interagency agreement is finalized.
