Superintendent Ebert names two deputy superintendents as board approves employment agreements

The Clark County School District Board of School Trustees approved two employment agreements Thursday, naming Dr. Jesse Welsh as Deputy Superintendent for Teaching and Learning and Felicia Gonzales as Deputy Superintendent for Business Operations. Both approvals were unanimous, 7-0.
Superintendent Sandra Ebert said the appointments reflect her early-stage staffing decisions since arriving at the district; Thursday was her ninth day in the role. Ebert described a split of responsibilities: the chief financial officer will report directly to the superintendent while the Deputy Superintendent for Business Operations will focus on facilities, operations, transportation and related functions.
Dr. Welsh has participated in recent board briefings and will oversee teaching and learning programs, Ebert said. Felicia Gonzales, a longtime CCSD educator and administrator who previously opened the Southwest Career and Technical Academy and served in senior roles at the Nevada Department of Education, will lead business operations.
Public comment: Marie Niesas, president of the Clark County Education Association (CCEA), said the union welcomed Superintendent Ebert and the new leadership team.
Board action: Trustee Cavazos moved to approve the employment agreement for Dr. Jesse Welsh; the motion passed 7-0. Later in the meeting Trustee Baron moved to approve the employment agreement for Felicia Gonzales; that motion also passed 7-0.
Ebert said the hires are part of a broader effort to reorganize senior leadership and build a team aligned with her priorities.
