Carteret County names Sharon Griffin permanent county manager

The board first amended the meeting agenda to add the appointment and then approved the amended agenda and consent items before proceeding to the swearing-in. Commissioner Waldrop moved to make the appointment final; Commissioner Shen seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous.
Commissioners offered public remarks praising Griffin’s performance since she first joined the county in an interim capacity. Commissioner Moore said Griffin had made a “great impact” building relationships with towns and staff. Commissioner Clark called the appointment a “home run,” citing Griffin’s education and performance. Vice Chairman Mansfield and other commissioners expressed similar endorsements of her work during the interim period.
In her remarks as county manager, Griffin thanked the board and outlined a set of upcoming public deadlines and events, including the 2025 general reappraisal appeals deadline and multiple public meetings on the county’s draft comprehensive transportation plan. She reminded residents that reappraisal appeals are due at the tax office by Friday, May 2, at 5 p.m.
Griffin also listed several county events and services: a household hazardous waste collection (April 26, 8 a.m.–1 p.m. at the Carteret County Health Department parking lot), a countywide litter cleanup (April 26, 9–11 a.m.), Operation Medicine Drop (April 26, 10 a.m.–2 p.m. at all landfill locations), the Hurricane Preparedness Expo (May 5, 9 a.m.–1 p.m., Crystal Coast Civic Center), and the 11th annual Healthy Aging Expo (May 9 at the Leon Mann Junior Enrichment Center). She invited the public to the draft comprehensive transportation plan drop-in meetings held across the county May 7–15 (5:30–7:30 p.m.).
The appointment now makes Griffin the county manager without interim designation; the board recorded the action as final and unanimous.
