Planning commission finalizes detached EADU draft; housing committee review requested

Far West — The Planning Commission has finalized a draft ordinance that would permit detached accessory dwelling units (detached EADUs) and is preparing a recommendation to the City Council, Vice Chair Lyle said during the council meeting.
Lyle told the council the planning commission reviewed addressing and utility-connection implications and changed ordinance language to make utility hookups subject to the utilities’ separate rules. He said sewer, water and gas hookups will be governed by the utility providers and that addressing for external units will be the responsibility of the homeowner or tenant.
The commission has completed edits and plans to send the draft to staff for transmittal to the council. Council members asked that the commission first route the ordinance through the city’s Housing Committee for review before the planning commission’s formal recommendation to council.
